Resources, in Craniosacral Biodynamic, are the aspects of a person’s constitution that support and nurture well being. They contribute to our ability to adapt to change and handle stress. They are strengths to draw on in threatening or dangerous situations. Resources are both internal and external:
External resources can include people as well as places and activities in our life that help us connect to a sense of wellbeing.
Internal resources are aspects of our inner life that help us cope with stress and change. These could include how our thought processes work, emotional flexibility, our self-awareness or ability to witness ourselves.
Connecting with our own resources before a session creates a sense of inner wellness and becomes a reference for the client. It is important to connect the resource with physical sensation. It is not taking the consciousness away to a happier time or place but using an image or memory to create the physiological responses that engender health. Thus, the resource leads us to an embodied sense of wellbeing. Helping the client to connect with resources at the beginning of a session establishes an orientation to health and gives a base of energy for the session work. Working with resources throughout the session can give space when trauma arises and shift the client’s orientation from suffering to well being.
